Disney has cancelled Doogie Kameãloha, MD after two seasons.

The House of Mouse revived the Neil Patrick Harris series from the 90s with a Hawaiian lead back in 2019, with Andi Mack's Peyton Elizabeth Lee and Canada's Drag Race's Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman in the main cast. Buffy and How I Met Your Mother's Alyson Hannigan, the MCU's Randall Park and comedian Margaret Cho have also appeared in the show.

Now TVLine is reporting that the plug has been pulled, five months after the 10 episodes of season 2 dropped on streaming service Disney+.

The show followed 16-year-old Lahela 'Doogie' Kameāloha as she juggled her medical career and life as a normal teenager.

The publication doesn't have any reason for the cancellation nor any speculation, but the news does come in the midst of the writers and actors strike, which has seen plenty of projects paused or outright cancelled, with pundits theorising that streaming hasn't been making as much money as the huge amounts of commissioned content suggested.

Disney+ alone has recently seen the cancellation of things like National Treasure: Edge of History and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, while projects like the much-hyped Willow revival, which had already released on the service, were removed with no other streaming home or physical release.

Willow writer John Bickerstaff hit out at the decision, stating: ""They gave us six months. Not even. This business has become absolutely cruel... The only conclusion is that this is to get out of paying residuals. During a strike.

"And look, eternal streaming libraries are not sustainable. We're all going to have to adjust to that at some point. But to spend [REDACTED] on a show and then disappear it six months later is just bad business."

Seasons 1 and 2 of Doogie Kameãloha, MD are available to stream now on Disney+.
