Disney+ has revealed the future of National Treasure: Edge of History, with the television series being cancelled after just one season.

As reported by Deadline, the adventure series will not be getting a follow-up season, with Disney deciding to pull the plug after 10 episodes.

The series served as a spin-off to the two films in the franchise, which were released in 2004 and 2007 respectively, following the adventures of Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera) and Tasha Rivers (Zuri Reed) as they search for a lost Pan-American treasure.

The series, which was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, also starred Antonio Cipriano, Jake Austin Walker and Catherine Zeta-Jones; while both Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel reprised their roles from the film series.

Bartha, who plays computer expert Riley Poole, revealed he was initially sceptical about reprising his role in a guest capacity, saying he took the opportunity for his children’s sake.

"I was sceptical at first, if I'm going to be honest. But when I looked past my initial scepticism, I was excited to see what it was going to be," he said. "I have kids now, and I'm really desperate for something to watch with them.

"We made the original National Treasure almost 20 years ago, and those two movies are basically the only two movies I've ever made that my kids can watch. Being able to do something that my daughters can watch was what got me past the scepticism.

"And I've known the Wibberleys [creators Cormac and Marianne Wibberley] for a long time, and [executive producers] Jon [Turteltaub] and Jerry [Bruckheimer] were involved. I knew the heart was in the right place, and they would respect the spirit of the franchise," he added.

Though Edge of History has been canned, it is unknown if this puts the third National Treasure film into doubt. Bruckheimer revealed last year that a new film, including lead star Nicolas Cage, was in early development.
