Disney drops trailer for ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ prequel series,’Star Wars’ celebration

The upcoming series, set to drop this month, sees the return of Ewan McGregor in the titular role

Star Wars fans, rejoice! For this year’s May the 4th celebration, Disney dropped the official teaser trailer for their new series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, bringing back Ewan McGregor in the titular role.

We’ve had our eyes on Obi-Wan for months now as theGrio previously reported on Moses Ingram, who nabbed a role in the highly anticipated new series. Fresh off her acclaimed turn in The Queen’s Gambit, her character is still unknown but fans got a peek at what she and the rest of the show’s cast are up to in the new series.

Also returning to the universe is Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader). Filling out the cast is Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.

The announcement reads, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.”

Executive produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold, the series is directed entirely by Deborah Chow.

In addition to the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, the entire Star Wars saga is ready and available to stream for fans near and far, far, away on Disney+. From the original trilogy, prequels and the new era, every installment is available to binge, as well as Disney+ series like The Mandalorian.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere May 27 on Disney+.
