Disney has over 50 movies coming to theaters through 2027 - here they are

Walt Disney Studios has an enviable movie slate for years to come.

In addition to its coming Disney animated movies and live-action films, the studio also releases Pixar movies, "Star Wars" films, and Marvel movies.

With the company's 2019 acquisition of Fox studios, which includes 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, and Blue Sky Studios, Disney gained control of a number of upcoming projects and franchises like "Avatar." Here are the over 50 Disney and Fox movies currently scheduled for release.

Pixar's "Soul" was moved from the summer to the fall of 2020. Now, it will be released on streaming.

The movie, announced by Disney and Pixar on June 19, 2019, will "take you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life's most important questions."

Jamie Foxx voices Joe Gardner, the character seen above, a middle-school band teacher who has a passion for jazz music. Tina Fey voices a "soul-in-training," who has an unexpected encounter with Gardner and decides to help him get back to Earth. 

Pixar's chief creative officer Pete Docter co-directs the film with Kemp Powers. Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross compose the film with original jazz music from Jon Batiste.

Fox will release a third "Kingsman" movie from director Matthew Vaughn.

According to Disney and Fox, the film will follow the origins of the independent intelligence agency.

The synopsis reads, "As a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them." The film will now debut about a year after its original release.

Matthew Vaughn returns to close out the trilogy with Djimon Hounsou and Charles Dance joining Harris Dickinson and Ralph Fiennes.

"Nomadland," based on a work of non-fiction, was moved to February.

The film is based on the non-fiction book that follows Americans traveling the country searching for work. The film, being directed by Chloé Zhao, stars Frances McDormand and David Strathairn.

"Everybody's Talking About Jamie" is based on the musical of the same name.

The adaptation of the hit musical follows Jamie New, a 16-year-old who dreams of becoming a drag queen with the support of his mom and friends.

The film stars newcomer Max Harwood, Sarah Lancashire, Lauren Patel, and Richard E. Grant.

Disney Animation's "Raya and the Last Dragon" was moved to 2021.

Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) is a lone warrior from Kumandra, a kingdom where dragons and humans once lived in harmony. But all of the dragons except one disappeared when they sacrificed themselves to save humanity from an evil force. When that dark threat returns 500 years later, Raya goes out in search of the last dragon to bring unity back to the world. 

The fantasy-action adventure will be directed by Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins ("Big Hero 6," "Frozen") with Awkwafina ("Crazy Rich Asians") voicing the dragon, Sisu.

During Disney's investor's day, the company announced the film will be available simultaneously to unlock on Disney Plus for a cost through Premier Access. Disney previously released "Mulan" for an additional $29.99 this way in September.

Disney finally gave the "Bob's Burger" movie a release date.

After being delayed from a July 2020 release, Disney finally gave the "Bob's Burgers" movie a release date.

Creator Loren Bouchard wrote, directed, and produced the musical comedy, which he said will "scratch every itch" fans of the show have had.

"Ron's Gone Wrong" is an animated film that was pushed back.

The film will take place between the events of 2016's "Captain America: Civil War" and 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War." Natasha Romanoff reunites with some old comrades to take down a villain named Taskmaster.

David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz star in the film along with Scarlett Johansson.

Reynolds plays a bank teller, named Guy, whose bank gets robbed multiple times daily. When Guy starts wondering what's going on, he realizes he's a non-playable character in a video game.

Reynolds debuted the first footage for the film at New York Comic Con in October 2019 to a warm reception. Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Taika Waititi, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, and Utkarsh Ambudkar star.

Disney's "Cruella" will serve as an origin story of Cruella de Vil.

Emma Stone will be the villain from the animated classic "The 101 Dalmations." According to Stone, the movie will have a 1970s punk-rock feel.

According to Disney's official description of the film, released after its 2020 investor's day, Cruella's name is Estella. Emma Thompson will also star in the film as the Baroness, the head of a fashion house who takes Estella under her wing. As of Thursday, Disney said the film will release theatrically in 2021.

Pixar will release "Luca" in June 2021.

Oscar nominee Enrico Casarosa ("La Luna") is directing the coming-of-age story about Luca, who spends his summer on the Italian Riviera with his best friend. The catch? His friend happens to be a sea monster from another world.

"This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it's set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship," said Casarosa in a press release. "Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in 'Luca.'"

"Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" will introduce us to another Marvel superhero.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the movie about the Master of Kung Fu who "must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization."

Introduced in the comics in 1973, Simu Liu will play the titular character with Awkwafina ("Ocean's 8") also starring. Tony Leung will play the Mandarin. A fake version of the character, played by Ben Kingsley, appeared in "Iron Man 3."

The film recently finished filming in October after a four-month filming hiatus. 

Disney's "Jungle Cruise" is based on the ride of the same name from the Disney parks.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays a 1930s riverboat captain, who goes on an exploratory mission into the jungle.

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas will star in "Deep Water."

The film, based on the Patricia Highsmith book, follows a couple who have fallen out of love who start playing mind games with each other.

Ben Affleck, Tracy Letts, and Ana de Armas star in the thriller. 

Affleck and Armas have been seeing one another since filming on the movie ended. In August, the two went on a double date with Affleck's longtime friend Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso

Peter Jackson's Beatles documentary, "The Beatles: Get Back," was moved nearly a year.

Disney announced it acquired the distribution rights to the documentary in March 2020.

According to a press release, the film will go behind-the-scenes of the making of the band's album "Let It Be" and their final live concert on London's Savile Row.

The film was made using more than 55 hours of unseen footage that was filmed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969 and 140 hours of "mostly unheard" audio recordings from the "Let It Be" album sessions. 

A "Death on the Nile" reboot was originally set for a 2020 release.

Disney's 60th animated movie will be centered around a Colombian girl named Mirabel.

Disney's 60th animated feature is about the Madrigals, who live in the mountains of Colombia in a magical place called Encanto where each of the children — except one named Mirabel — has been blessed with a power. When the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel may be the only person who can save her family.

The film is directed by Byron Howard ("Zootopia") and features music from Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda previously said he had been working on a secret animated Disney project for years.

Fox's "West Side Story" is a remake of the movie based on the Broadway musical.

The cast includes Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose, Corey Stoll, Brian d'Arcy James, and Rita Moreno, who starred in the original movie. It's directed by Steven Spielberg.

Disney added another live-action movie, "The Little Mermaid," for December 2021.

The live-action version of "The Little Mermaid" doesn't have a release date, yet, but singer Halle Bailey was cast in the role in July 2019. Awkwafina, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy also join the cast.

The remake will include original songs and new ones from Alan Menken and "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. Filming is expected to resume in January.

Disney will release horror thriller "Antlers" through Fox Searchlight.

Domee Shi, who directed the Pixar short "Bao," has been working on her own feature-length film, "Turning Red." The film follows 13-year-old Mei Lee, who turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited.

The "Doctor Strange" sequel is now coming in 2022.

Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Dr. Stephen Strange in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness." Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will be in the sequel, too. The events of her Disney+ series, " WandaVision," will directly tie in to "Doctor Strange 2."

During Disney's investor's day, Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige confirmed Rachel McAdams will reprise her role in the sequel and announced Xochitl Gomez will join as America Chavez who becomes Miss America in the comics.

The director of the first "Doctor Strange," Scott Derrickson, left the film in January 2020 "due to creative differences." He remains an executive producer. "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi is returning to the MCU and will direct the sequel.

A fourth "Thor" movie is coming in 2022.

"Thor: Love and Thunder" will feature the return of Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (and the new king of Asgard).

The big surprise is that Natalie Portman will be back playing a female Thor. "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi is returning to direct. Christian Bale will play the film's villain, Gorr the God Butcher.

Another "Lion King" film is scheduled for April 2022.

A "live-action" prequel to Disney's very successful "The Lion King' adaptation is in the works with director Barry Jenkins. Hans Zimmer is returning to do the score for the prequel with Pharrell and Nicholas Britell.

Disney has another live-action movie planned for 2022. It could be "Aladdin."

Could this be the date for another live-action sequel? 

"Aladdin" producer Dan Lin told Insider they were already looking at a potential sequel to that film. Variety reported in February 2020 the sequel is moving forward.

Disney and Pixar have a "Toy Story" spinoff planned for 2022.

Docter explained the sci-fi action-adventure as the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the fictional hero who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy we know and love from the "Toy Story" franchise.

The film, directed by Angus MacLane, will show how a test pilot became the Space Ranger, who became a popular action figure.

Chris Evans will voice this version of Lightyear.

Kevin Feige confirmed at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con that "Black Panther 2" is underway. Out of respect for Chadwick Boseman, Marvel won't recast the role of T'Challa.

"To honor the legacy that Chad helped us build through his portrayal of the King of Wakanda, we will continue to explore the world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film," Feige said.

Disney will release a fifth "Indiana Jones" movie in 2022.

This fifth "Indiana Jones" movie with Harrison Ford has been delayed multiple times. It was first confirmed in 2015 after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in October 2012.

Director Steven Spielberg will not direct the next film. Lucasfilm president Kathy Kennedy confirmed during Disney's 2020 investor day that "Logan" director James Mangold will direct. 

It will be followed by a Disney live-action film.

The DisInsider first reported the 1997 animated film about the son of Zeus will get a live-action remake. Could this be what will get this slot?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Avengers: Endgame" directors Anthony and Joe Russo will produce, but not direct, the film.

 

Another Marvel movie will come fall 2022.

We do know that a third "Ant-Man" film is on the way. Feige recently announced Peyton Reed will return to direct "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" with Paul Rudd and Evangeline.

Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer will also be back. Kathryn Newton will play the new Cassie Lang while Jonathan Majors will play Kang the Conqueror.

Disney will release another live-action movie in November 2022.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are reportedly working on new music for a live-action "Snow White" movie. That may be the film released on this date.

A "Captain Marvel" sequel is officially happening.

Nia DaCosta will direct the sequel with Brie Larson reprising her role as Carol Danvers. Iman Vellani will costar as Ms. Marvel. Teyonah Parris, who plays a grown-up Monica Rambeau, will also be in the film after an appearance in "WandaVision."

That same month, Disney will release an animated film.

"Meet the Robinsons" director Stephen Anderson is reportedly working on an animated film for Disney. 

Fox's "Avatar 2" has been delayed again and is set for a 2022 release.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige announced Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will star as Blade in a reboot of the franchise. "Blade" is still undated.

Another Marvel movie will be released in May 2023.

Could this be the long-awaited "Deadpool 3"? Deadline reports a third film is in the works with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin writing the script. The fourth-wall-breaking character is expected to finally be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Pixar will release a film in June 2023.

It's unlikely we'll get another "Toy Story" movie, but Pixar has been making a lot of sequels lately.

Disney's third untitled Marvel movie is set for summer 2023.

We know a third "Guardians of the Galaxy" is coming at some point in 2023. Director James Gunn said he needs to finish his "Suicide Squad" movie before work on the third film begins.

The first two "Guardians" movies were released in the first week of August. 

Marvel's final film of 2023 comes in November.

Now that Disney purchased Fox, it can make X-Men and Fantastic Four movies. 

During Disney's 2020 investor's day, Feige announced Jon Watts ("Spider-Man: Homecoming) is directing a "Fantastic Four" reboot. This seems far out enough for the new film. The last time we saw Marvel's first family on screen was in 2015.

Kennedy surprised fans when she announced "Wonder Woman" director Patty Jenkins will direct her own "Star Wars" movie.

Kennedy said the film will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they "earn their wings and risk their lives."

Lucasfilm is working on another original project called "Children of Blood & Bone."

The film will introduce a new hero based on Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times best-selling novel of the same name. The film will follow an African girl's journey to bring back magic to her people, the Maji.

"Avatar 4" is already scheduled for the following year.

James Cameron had ideas for "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" in 2010. He then announced "Avatar 4" in 2012 and then revealed he had ideas for a fifth in 2015. 

Fox's "The Woman In the Window" is based on the thriller novel of the same name.

Wes Anderson's next movie, "The French Dispatch," now has no release date.

"The Eyes of Tammy Faye" - TBD

Another currently undated Fox Searchlight film is based on the documentary of the same name following the history of televangelists Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker.

Jessica Chastain told Variety she acquired the rights to Faye's life in 2012 for about $5,000 and will sing in the movie.

Michael Showalter ("The Big Sick") directs the film, starring Chastain, Andrew Garfield, and Vincent D'Onofrio.
