Disney, Sony reach Spider-Man movie deal

Have no fear Spidey fans...

After an impasse in August between Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures over the future of the Spiderman movie franchise, a new deal was reached Friday between the two media giants that includes a new movie starring Tom Holland in 2021 as well as appearances by the web-slinger in future Marvel Studios films.

This comes after fans feared that a dispute between the studios would keep Spider-Man out of the blockbuster Marvel Cinematic Universe in future films, sparking the hashtags “SaveSpiderMan" and "SaveSpidey" on Twitter this summer - as Sony owns the rights to the Marvel character.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a statement, "I am thrilled that Spidey's journey in the MCU will continue."

The most recent film in the series, "Spider-Man: Far From Home," released in June grossed $1.11 billion at global box offices and was Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film all time.
