Disney World Just Gave Animal Kingdom Its Wildest Holiday Makeover Ever

Disney World is already a well-known place for its over-the-top approach to holiday decor. Each year, the vast majority of the park is taken over by red and green colors, Mickey Mouse Santas, garlands, and bows. However, there’s always been one part of the park that’s remained bare: The Animal Kingdom. But, this year, it appears even the animals are getting involved in the holiday fun.

For the first time ever the Animal Kingdom is joining in the holiday magic with a complete overhaul of the Tree of Life. However, it’s remaining very clearly non-denominational. Instead, each night, the tree will be illuminated with wintertime scenes and holiday music, USA Today reports, in a new show called Nighttime Awakenings. As part of the nighttime light show, illuminated animals take part in various snowy scenes splashed across the tree.

But, the holiday fun doesn’t stop at the tree. According to Mice Chat, Disney World truly decked the halls of the Animal Kingdom with its own unique vibe. Decorations include illuminated animal-themed lanterns, colorful lights hanging over the streets, and character-inspired Christmas trees.

And, as Mouse Planet revealed, Discovery Island, the area before the Tree of Life, guests can also check out a few hand-crafted, life-size artisan-sculpted animal puppets, which are free to roam around the park by the day before lighting up each night.

Lastly, DinoLand U.S.A. and Donald's Dino-Bash, has also added to its holiday decor. In Asia, Disney has added more holiday decorations in a celebration of Diwali, while India has come to life with the festival of lights, Mouse Planet shared. Disney also added a few new elements to Africa, which a park official described to Mouse Planet as a blend of "the inspiration and style of Western traditions with the colors and textiles of authentic African celebrations."
