Disney World: Specialty license plate in works for Florida drivers

Walt Disney World will join the fray of specialty license plates on the back of Florida cars. The plate’s design will salute the resort’s 50th anniversary, and proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish of Central and North Florida, Disney says.

Its look, timeframe and price have not been revealed.

Florida offers more than 100 specialty plates. For additional fees, drivers can visually support the state’s colleges, sports teams, environmental causes, military branches and special interests. Profits are steered, typically, to charities.

A plate devoted to Orlando City Soccer Club currently is in the works as well. Fans recently were asked to vote between four designs.

The top-selling plate in Florida for 2019 was tied to the University of Florida, followed by sea turtles, the endless summer plate, Florida State University and wild dolphins.

The license-plate announcement is among the first official bits from Walt Disney World about its 50th anniversary celebration. Magic Kingdom theme park opened to the public on Oct. 1, 1971.

Car owners can now buy presale vouchers for $25 at county tax collector’s offices and Department of Motor Vehicles offices across Florida. For more information, go to www.flhsmv.gov.
