After a year-long pandemic shut down, Walt Disney Co. and Marvel Studios have announced that they will open the much-awaited Avengers-themed attraction at Disney’s California Adventure park on 4 June.

Marvel entertainment took to Twitter to announce: “You can suit up for your next mission, recruits. Avengers Campus opens June 4, 2021, inside Disney California Adventure at Disneyland!”

The Disneyland expansion theme park was originally scheduled to open in July 2020, but Covid-19 forced it to close down.

“It’s been a challenging and transformative year for our company,” Josh D’Amaro, who runs the entertainment giant’s parks divisions, said during a presentation.

He added: “The shutdown also gave us the opportunity to accelerate planned improvements” and said that “the Disneyland experience would be far different than what customers are used to”.

President of Disneyland Resort Ken Potrock said in a statement: “We are so excited to soon welcome our guests to Avengers Campus, the first land dedicated to Super Heroes at Disney California Adventure Park.”

He continued: “Guests of all ages can find their powers and our cast members will unite to create these special moments and memories.”

The normal way in which visitors buy tickets, queue up for rides and order food has changed. Furthermore, the system of annual passes and Fast Passes have also been “scrapped.”

Avengers Campus will offer themed rides like a Spider-Man Adventure screen ride, and a Guardians of the Galaxy drop ride, restaurants, gift shops, and photo ops aimed at immersing visitors inside the MCU.

“Avengers Campus will be a place where fans and guests can finally step into the universe they love and stand alongside some of their favourite heroes,” said Marvel Studios’ representative Dave Bushore.

He continued: “The optimism inherent in Avengers Campus captures the diversity, power, and teamwork these extraordinary characters possess, and now they come together to unite people from all over the world under one guiding principle: We are stronger together.”
