The House of Mouse is lining up its next live-action remake, with the beloved furry duo Chip 'n' Dale headed for a feature length movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Akiva Schaffer has signed on to direct the feature film, which will reimagine the TV series Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers as a CGI/live-action hybrid.

Beauty and the Beast's Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are attached as producers, while it remains to be seen whether the finished product will receive a theatrical release or simply be added to the streaming service Disney+.

Chip 'n' Dale were created back in 1943, but their most prominent time in the Disney limelight came via 1989's Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers TV show.

The series showed Chip as the brains whilst Dale became the lovable goofball as they ran a detective agency to help out animal clients.

The live-action remake's plot is being kept secret for now, although it will reportedly not play out as an origin tale. It's actually being described as "meta, self-referential and cool".
