Dispatch Columbus Conversations: Why Drag? Exploring drag amid culture war

Drag performers will discuss why they do drag and how misinformation affects performers during The Columbus Dispatch presents Columbus Conversations: Why Drag? on Tuesday, May 16, at 12:30 p.m.

The free community forum aims to shed light on the world of drag amidst the ongoing culture war targeting performers across the city, state and nation. The event will be hosted by Dispatch Opinion and Community Engagement Editor Amelia Robinson.

The event will feature prominent drag artists Corey Williams (Anisa Love) and Josh Stucky (Dana Sintell), a member of The Rubi Girls. Drag artist Caleb Mikayla Robinson and Julia Applegate (Jake Wakeman) a former drag artist with H.I.S. Kings and The Royal Renegades, will lend their perspectives. LuSter Singleton, Lustivious Dela Virgion, and Luster Dela V., documentarian and drag artists, will also join the conversation.

This conversation has emerged from Robinson's recent discussions with Applegate and Singleton, who are currently collaborating on a film centered around a legendary lesbian bar in Columbus.

The conversation will be streamed on Dispatch.com and on the newspaper's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Viewers can also see the discussion online following the event.
