Man ‘accidentally’ shot in leg at Walmart, deputies say

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Investigators say it was an ‘accident’ when a man was shot in the leg outside a Walmart near Holland on Tuesday.

The shooting happened shortly before noon in the parking lot of the Walmart near the intersection of Lakewood Boulevard and Park Drive in Holland Township, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said.

Responding deputies found a 47-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was hospitalized with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. He has since been released from the hospital.

Deputies said he had a handgun at the time of the incident and had gone to the Walmart parking lot to meet with people he knew. At some point, he was shot in the leg and then returned to his home on East Lakewood Boulevard, where first responders were called.

“Investigators believe the gunshot wound was accidentally self-inflicted,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a release.
