The Solon Springs Volunteer Fire Department

hosted an assembly

at Solon Springs School Friday, Dec. 9, and gave every family a smoke alarm on Monday, Dec. 12.

The Kitchen restaurant in Superior

hosted its annual fundraising drive

for Toys for Tots and the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435 Honor Guard last week.

Superior Police Chief Nicholas Alexander, pictured above, joined Superior Fire Chief Scott Gordon, pictured above at right, Douglas County Sheriff Tom Dalbec and sheriff-elect Matt Izzard in taking orders for the event. Tips they collected during a two-hour period benefited the nonprofit organizations.

Three Northwestern seniors

made the varsity boys basketball team this year after not playing since they were underclassmen, and they're eager to make an impact.

* The Wisconsin and Minnesota departments of transportation laid out the most up-to-date

options for replacing the Blatnik Bridge

at a public meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

* The jury

returned a second guilty verdict

last week for Robert Lee Bennett III, 42, finding that he was responsible for his actions when he killed his mother, Cindy Bennett in 2020.
