A Prince George County woman and her daughter who went missing over the weekend while heading to a faith-based camp in West Virginia have been located, and everyone is OK.

Martha Bates, 42, and Mary Bates, 15 were found around 4 p.m. Thursday in Highland County, Virginia, according to an email from Prince George Police. They spent about four days in the woods while authorities from Highland County and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management searched for them.

“We are happy to report that they are in good health and have been reunited with their family,” the Prince George email read.

Martha’s husband, Michael, had gone to Highland County to assist in the search.

The mother and daughter were en route last weekend to Camp Carlo, a summer camp for kids in Huttonsville, West Virginia. Michael Bates reported them missing after finding out they never made it to their destination.

Authorities were able to trace the two from the last ping of the mother’s cell phone reported around 4 p.m. July 9 near the Highland County town of Monterrey, about 45 miles east of Huttonsville.

The Bates family lives in Disputanta.
