Distemper outbreak at Muscatine shelter improves

A distemper outbreak at shelter in Muscatine is improving after the virus killed several dogs at the shelter.

Managers of It Takes A Village Animal Rescue spotted signs of the virus a few weeks ago. The shelter quarantined dogs as soon as they confirmed cases. Eleven dogs have died, and three are in critical condition. The shelter has been working with specialists to guide them through saving as many dogs as possible.

Shelter employees have not had to put any more dogs into isolation for more than a week.
