District 1-3A Swim: Booker T. Washington boys race to title, Gulf Breeze girls take second

A week removed from closing the regular season with a win at the Escambia County Championships, the Booker T. Washington boys swim and dive team has made some more noise.

Freshman Ian Malone and sophomore Logan Robinson each earned a pair of individual titles to lead the Wildcats to the District 1-3A championship on Friday from the UWF Aquatic Center.

The Booker T. Washington boys were victorious in seven events as the team totaled 401 points to take first place. Niceville (338.5) finished second while Mosley (287) placed third.

Malone and Robinson began their day by helping Washington win in the 200-yard medley relay. They joined Max Little and William Flores to take the event with a time of 1 minute, 39.23 seconds. Malone, Robinson and Little later teamed with Coulson Voeltz to pick up a victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:15.78).

In individual swims, Robinson placed first in the 200-yard individual medley after turning in a time of 1:55.16. He backed that performance up with a win in 100 butterfly (50.54). Malone took first place in the 50-and 200-yard freestyles, completing the events in respective times of 21.42 and 1:43.45.

Booker T. Washington's last individual win came from Donivan Alexander. He put up the best effort in the 1-meter dive, taking the event with a score of 337.6.

Elsewhere, three other area swimmers won district titles. Pace senior Hudson Trammel claimed first in the 100 backstroke (53.6),Tate junior Braedan Jacobs was victorious in the 500 freestyle (4:44.72) while Milton senior Noah Day took first in the 100 freestyle (48.82).

In girls competition, Niceville cruised to victory by compiling a team score of 507.5, more than 200 points ahead of second place. The area's best team showing came from Gulf Breeze, who piled up 300 points to edge past Mosley (297) for second place.

Gulf Breeze got victories in two individual events. Senior Emi Goto captured a district diving title by putting up a final score of 420.2. Later, sophomore Jillian Beardsley claimed first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.62).

Led by Goto and Beardsley, Gulf Breeze leads all schools with 16 regional qualifiers (nine girls, seven boys). Booker T. Washington produced 14 qualifiers (10 boys, four girls).

The Region 1-3A meet will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Florida Aquatic Swimming & Training in Ocala.
