District 10 baseball watchlist: Andrew Costello and 8 more underclassmen to follow in 2023

Andrew Costello's name won't appear in a Cathedral Prep box score until this coming spring, but the freshman is already assured to receive interest when the Ramblers' baseball team does return to action.

Costello helped the United States win the U-15 Baseball World Cup that ended Sept. 4 in Hermosillo, Mexico. He was voted to the all-tournament team thanks to a .462 batting average as the Americans' primary designated hitter.

Costello already figures as a likely candidate for the 2023 all-District 10 and all-Region 5 teams, but he'll have plenty of youthful company. The following are other probable returnees who earned district or region honors after their first seasons of varsity baseball in 2022:

Jake Hower, McDowell: The outfielder was the only freshman on the all-District 10 this past spring. He led the team in hits (27) and RBIs (28) and was second for batting average (.429).

Nick Solderich, Greenville: He was selected to the Region 2 second team as a utility player. His .350 batting average and nine RBIs were among the major categories that topped the Trojans' statistics.

Wyatt Burchill, Saegertown: The outfielder earned a Region 3 second-team selection. He hit .356 and drove in 14 runs.

Kendall Yosten, Seneca: The first-year Bobcat was a second-team selection in Region 4 as a designated hinter.

Bryce Schueth, Mercyhurst Prep: Like Yosten, he was proficient enough as a designated hitter to warrant a spot on the all-Region 4 second team. He hit. 238 and drove in four runs for the Lakers.

Kameron Mong, Titusville: He was voted to the all-Region 4 second team as a utility player. He hit .264 and tied for the team lead with 13 RBIs.

Cathedral Prep's Jason Fultz hit .419 and drove in 32 runs during the 2022 season.
