District 112 Student, Contractor Test Positive For Coronavirus
HIGHLAND PARK, IL — A student and a contractor in North Shore School District 112 both tested positive for the coronavirus Wednesday, administrators announced.
In response, Superintendent Mike Lubelfeld ordered Edgewood Middle School to be closed for two days of cleaning. Outside of maintenance and cleaning crews, no one will be allowed back to the building until Tuesday, he said in a message to families and staff.
"While we have been successful so far with being open for four weeks, today COVID-19 has hit us and we have to make a pivot," Lubelfeld said.
A contractor who works for the district through its facilities management provider, ABM Industries, is in isolation after testing positive for the COVID-19 virus, the superintendent said.
Earlier Wednesday, Assistant Superintendent Holly Colin informed parents that a fourth-grader at Oak Terrace Elementary also tested positive for the coronavirus. The student has not attended in-person classes all week.
The Lake County Health Department or school administrators will contact everyone identified as a close contact of the infected employee and student, Lubelfeld said, asking community members to cooperate with contact tracing efforts.
Colin said Oak Terrace students who are not identified as close contacts of the confirmed coronavirus case may continue to attend in-person classes.
