May 3—Taxpayers in Mansfield, Ashford and Willington will have the opportunity to weigh in on the proposed 2021-22 budget during the annual meeting tonight.

Voters will then decide the budget at the polls Tuesday.

Tonight's meeting will start at 7 and will be held via a Zoom webinar on the district's livestream channel.

The budget is proposed at $ 22,322,252, an increase of $318,462, or 1.45 percent, from current spending.

That includes contributions from the three member towns: Mansfield, Ashford and Willington. Member town contributions are based on enrollment in the three towns.

Mansfield's enrollment is projected to be 591 students, an increase of 37; Ashford's enrollment is projected to be 186 students next year, a decrease of 10 students; and Willington's enrollment is projected to be 232 students, an increase of 30.

The budget includes multiple cost drivers, including an increase in the benefits line item based on claims, an increase in certified salaries due to the addition of a counselor to the academic support center and increases in purchased services, among other costs.

Taxpayers will then vote on the budget during a referendum Tuesday.

In Mansfield, taxpayers will vote at the Audrey P. Beck Municipal Building at 4 South Eagleville Road.; in Willington, taxpayers will vote at the Willington Town Office Building at 40 Old Farms Rd. and in Ashford, taxpayers will vote at Knowlton Memorial Hall at 25 Pompey Hollow Road.

All three sites will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
