District 5 recognizes area volleyball players

Strong seasons by Coshocton and River View were recognized, as the District 5 Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star teams were released recently.

River View senior Kayla Dulgar earned the Division I-II player of the year award, while Coshocton's Cari Bahmer and New Philadelphia's Susan Riesen shared the coach of the year honors.

Dulgar was joined on first team by Coshocton seniors Jalynn West, Lindsay Bryant and Miyah Davis, Carrollton senior Molly Brace, Dover freshman Caroline Hanner, Indian Valley senior Avery DePriest, New Philadelphia seniors Brooklyn Crowell and Ali Voll and West Holmes senior Brynlee Reed.

River View senior Cayla Shrimplin received second-team accolades with Carrollton junior Maleyna Havens, Dover freshmen Quincey Werntz, Harrison Central senior Maddy Butler, Indian Valley junior Gabby Meade, Indian Creek juniors Victoria Robertson and Reese Scott, New Philadelphia junior Kallyn Perks and sophomore Sidney Vandall and West Holmes senior Daphne Alexander.

Coshocton sophomore Kenidi Jackson, River View senior Alivia Spaulding, Carrollton senior Bayley McClelland, Dover senior Reagan Durbin, Harrison Central junior Danica Rensi, Indian Creek sophomore Camryn Ketron, Indian Valley junior Sadie Dryden, New Philadelphia sophomore Ava Riesen, Steubenville senior Mea Lulla and West Holmes Ella McMillen were honorable mention.

Ridgewood senior Kaelynn Robinson made second team in Division III, while junior teammate Kya Masloski was honorable mention.

Garaway's Morgan Schlabach was the Division III player of the year and Brad Shupe of Sandy Valley was tabbed coach of the year.

The District 5 all star match will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at Tuscarawas Central Catholic. Bahmer is tabbed to coach the West team, which will feature West, Bryant, Davis and Robinson, while Dulgar and Shrimplin will be on the East side.
