New district maps mean changes for some voters in Berks

Oct. 7—Pennsylvania has new congressional and legislative maps, and they might impact the names Berks County voters see on election ballots.

The state is required to update its congressional and legislative maps once every 10 years to stay up to date with changing census data. The once-in-a-decade process is called redistricting.

The new maps were approved earlier this year and include significant changes in Berks. That means some county residents might not be voting in the same districts they did last year.

The changes do not impact who is currently representing the county in Washington and Harrisburg. They will officially go into effect when the candidates running in the current election cycle are sworn in.

But voters will select candidates based on the new maps in the Nov. 8 election.

Here's what the new districts look like in Berks.
