Westerville City Schools has chosen Dawn Sayre, current district director of Career and College Pathways, to lead in the principal role at Westerville Central High School.

The board voted unanimously on Sayre's hiring as principal of Westerville Central High School during their June 13 meeting.

Sayre joined the district last year from the Hilliard City School District.

Westerville Superintendent John Kellogg sent a message to district staff June 3, announcing Sayre had been selected to lead the school beginning next academic year.

Westerville Central Principal Tom Lanier and Assistant Principal Roshawn Parker have accepted employment opportunities with Pickerington Local Schools.

Throughout her 18-year administrative career, Sayre has served as a high school principal, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, director of middle level education, summer school principal, assistant athletic director and director of education partnerships, according to her resume.

She has nine years of teaching experience at Hilliard Darby High School and holds numerous teaching and administrative certifications.

She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Otterbein College in 1997 and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton in 2012.

The district received 19 applications for the principal’s position at Westerville Central, according to Greg Viebranz, executive director of communications and family engagement.

Lanier was hired as the next principal of Pickerington High School Central and Parker is joining him as the school’s lead assistant principal.

"I am so thankful that I was able to spend the past five years working with the students, staff and the community at Westerville Central High School,” Lanier said.

“The experience has allowed me to grow personally and professionally. I am looking forward to taking the lessons I've learned in Westerville with me as I return to Pickerington and take the helm at Pickerington High School Central next year. I will miss the people I've worked with at Central, but I know they will keep pushing forward with an eye on doing what is best for all of our Warhawks."

Sayre's base salary is set at $130,000. Her benefits include retirement, Medicare and workers' compensation to add in $25,818 of cost for the district, totaling $155,818.

Insurance costs could be up to $21,675, depending upon her elected coverage, according to Viebranz.

Viebranz said those involved in the process to fill the vacancies at Westerville Central are waiting until after the principal is officially hired to fill the assistant principal vacancy so the principal can participate in that interview and selection process.
