District Soccer roundup: Pace pounds Booker T. Washington, sets up third match with Navarre

The district soccer postseason got going on Wednesday with five area teams punching their ticket to the next round in their respective bracket.

Although playing a program with a worse record, the Tate girls soccer team recorded the area's lone "upset" as a five seed, defeating No. 4 seed Fort Walton Beach in District 1-6A play.

Pace and Navarre were also winners from that same bracket while Gulf Breeze and Escambia advanced in the District 1-5 boys tournament.

Girls Soccer

No. 3 Pace 5, No. 6 Booker T. Washington 0

In the midst of their first winning campaign since 2015-16, the Patriots extended their season thanks to a home shutout against the Wildcats.

Junior goalkeeper Sidney Roest collected the clean sheet with three saves. Four players scored for Pace, led by Ava Wheaton. The junior forward put in two goals to boost her team-high total to 14 this season. Juniors Maddie Motes, Lucy Gongwer and senior Holland Tauscher each knocked in scores.

The Patriots bumped their record to 10-4-2. Meanwhile, Booker T. Washington's season comes to an end at 8-8-2. The team went down for just the second time in its last eight matches.

No. 2 Navarre 8, No. 7 Crestview 0

Victorious in eight of their last nine matches, the Raiders notched their 14th win of season following a lopsided shutout against the Bulldogs.

The winner put three on the scoreboard in the first half and five in the second. Stats were unavailable.

Navarre has recorded two wins against Crestview this season by a combined margin of 15-0. The Raiders (14-5-1) are host to Pace in a semifinal tilt at 5 p.m. Friday. They have defeated the Patriots twice this season, including a 6-2 result at Navarre on Jan. 11.

No. 5 Tate 3, No. 4 Fort Walton Beach 0

Junior goalkeeper Claire Diamond made seven saves to help the Aggies blank the Vikings (4-9) on the road.

Diamond was granted a 3-0 advantage in the first half after goals from junior midfielder Cassie Jackson, junior forward Cameron Kent and senior fullback Elise Grissom.

Tate (9-5-2) plays at 7 p.m. Friday at top-seeded Niceville (9-2-3) in a district semifinal.

Boys Soccer

District 1-5A semifinals at Gulf Breeze High School

No. 1 Gulf Breeze 11, No. 4 Pine Forest 0

The Dolphins set a season-high for goals in a match during an overwhelming effort against the Eagles.

Eight different players scored for Gulf Breeze. Junior midfielder Aiden Burr, junior forward Gavin Gailey and senior midfielder Oscar Garcia-Villa each put two balls into the back of the net. Senior defenders Seth Helt and Gabe Wilson along with junior defender Mirsad Beganovic all recorded a goal.

Entering districts ranked fourth in the state, the Dolphins improved their record to 15-2-2 this season. Pine Forest ended their season with an 0-12 record.

No. 2 Escambia 2, No. 3 Milton 0

Juniors Orion Brown and Amner Montelongo each recorded goals during the Gators' shutout win against the Panthers. Freshman Jackson Perkins and junior Kai Merriman had an assist apiece.

Escambia moved to 4-11-1 after picking up its first win since Dec. 7. The Gators take on host Gulf Breeze at 6 p.m. Monday for the District 1-6A title.
