Jupiter High School district swim: Senior-heavy crew cherishes memories made in championship sweep

JUPITER — The Warriors girls and boys swim teams dove in for a Class 4A-District 5 championship sweep at the North County Aquatic Complex on Friday afternoon.

The victory was the program's second straight, having previously earned the title in 2018 and 2019.

Jupiter's 20-senior deep core seeded itself nicely for a trip to regionals at Olympia High School (Orlando) next Saturday, where coach Kiril Zahariev and the Warriors plan on another series of speedy performances ahead of states at Sailfish Splash Waterpark and Aquatics Center in Stuart.

Senior Morgan Cogle, who also belongs to the roster of the Jamaican Swimming Federation, powered the girls' team to the top, coming first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.55) to contribute 20 points to the final team score.

Eager to get her hands on the hardware and pose with her teammates, Cogle said, "It's just been really fun to try to push myself to get harder and faster every year."

In the 100 free, sophomore Kaitlyn Demaria and senior Emma Gardner came in second (56.88) and third (59.71), respectively.

"I've been swimming for high schools since freshman year, but I'm finally at the point where I can some of my events and actually score points for the team, which feels really good," said senior Hudson Bishop.

A Coast Guard commit, Bishop led Jupiter's boys 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish (1:38.39), overwhelming the heat sheet with a whopping 40 points — six ahead of second-place Martin County.

The energy after the sweep was electric, but there was still a tinge of bittersweetness in the air. Some Warriors have been swimming with each other for as long as 11 years, the majority spending that much more time together in practices for water polo or club races with the Jupiter Dragons.

"We were all little kids so we've all kind of grown up together in the same grade, swimming, all progressing and pushing each other so having that experience is really special and I know we're all going to go on to bigger and better things," Bishop said.
