Thursday

Merritt Island 3, Bayside 0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-7)

Merritt Island continued its district championship winning streak after defeating Bayside in three sets.

In this district championship win, the Mustangs received contributions from players all over the court.

Maddie Johnson had 12 kills and six digs, Rylie Loggins added 11 digs, Bella Schwantz had 3 aces, Elena Martin had 10 kills and four aces, and Sarilyne Walley finished with 28 assists for the district champs.

With this win, Merritt Island will head to the playoffs once again.

Viera 3, South Fork 0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-18)

After a straight-set win over Melbourne on Wednesday, the Hawks flew out of the gate Thursday.

Building a 9-1 lead, Viera stretched their lead to 17-6 before South Fork made its move to get back into the set.

The Bulldogs closed the gap trailing 20-17 but the Hawks won the final five points of the set and took the lead in the match on a kill from Sydney Jones.

South Fork had a much better start to the second set grabbing a 5-0 lead capped by an ace from Southern Miss commit Marley Navaretta but Viera clawed back.

Led by senior Sydney Williams, Viera took 15 of the next 20 points and maintained a comfortable lead in the set.

Navaretta served consecutive aces to draw the Bulldogs to within two points at 19-17 and South Fork trailed 21-19 to have a shot at tying the match up but Viera’s Mak Carter, a Tampa commit, had three kills to close the set and give the Hawks a commanding two-set edge.

South Fork trailed in the third set 16-14 but again the Hawks closed the set stronger and in the end secured their second straight district title in a row.

Viera will look to back up their trip to the 6A state semifinal last year and if they climb high enough in the rankings setting the Region 2-6A bracket with Oviedo and Horizon just ahead of them in the last rankings, the Hawks could have home-court advantage through the regional final.

Holy Trinity 3, Edgewood 1

15-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-22

The Holy Trinity Tigers reclaimed the district championship title after defeating Edgewood, 3-1.

Edgewood won the first set of the match, but Holy Trinity battled back to win the next three sets and the district championship.

This match marked the third time the two teams have met in the district championship game.

In 2020, Holy Trinity won the district championship over Edgewood in three sets. Last season, Edgewood won the second district championship meeting between the two teams and its first volleyball district championship in school history.

The Red Wolves made their way back to the championship match this year after winning their semifinal game in straight sets over West Shore.

The Tigers entered the district tournament with just six losses and breezed through their semifinal win over Melbourne Central Catholic.

Astronaut 3, Space Coast 0

27-25, 25-16, 25-18

After falling to Space Coast in the semifinal round of last year's district tournament, Astronaut won the district 7-4A championship in straight sets over the Vipers.

The War Eagles were dominant throughout the tournament. Not only did they win the championship title, they also did not drop a set in the district tournament.

Brevard HEAT 3, St. Edward's 2

Brevard HEAT won the district 8-2A championship over St.Edward's in a five-set battle.

St. Edward's was the only team to win a match over Brevard HEAT in the regular season with that game going five sets as well.

Brevard HEAT now has a record of 18-1 heading into the playoffs.
