Ditch the leggings. It's time to wear a 'hot girl errand fit.'

  • TikTokers say there's a science to dressing like a "hot girl" while running errands.

  • They recommend wearing flare leggings, crewneck tops, and platform UGGs.

  • That means the combo of a sweater, tight-fitting leggings, and sneakers are out.

Last night, I found myself doomscrolling on TikTok while making a list of things I needed to do the next day.

I had just finished writing "go to Trader Joe's" when a video stopped me in my tracks.

"Hot girls on TikTok, what are we wearing to run errands?" Hannah Brown, an actor and social-media creator, said while showing off her sweater, leggings, and tote-bag combo.

Until that moment, I hadn't realized that "errand fits" existed. I'd thought everyone just picked an aesthetic — like coastal grandma, athleisure, or maybe quiet luxury — and then left the house.

But no. According to hot people on TikTok, you need a more specific outfit solely to go to the post office or buy groceries and look attractive while doing it.

Brown's version of a "hot girl errand outfit" seemed simple enough.

In her video, which had more than 1.3 million views as of Friday, she tucked her cream, waffle-knit sweater into black leggings, paired ankle socks with Jordan low-top sneakers, and accessorized with sunglasses and a practical tote bag.

But naturally, the TikTok crowd had tweaks, which Brown compiled into a list that's been viewed more than 648,000 times so far.

Dozens urged Brown to untuck her sweater — apparently a big no-no at the moment — and swap her form-fitting pants for flare leggings (or yoga pants, as they called them in my high-school days a decade ago).

Even her sweater and sneakers, TikTokers said, could be replaced with a crewneck and platform UGGs.

The results might not be too surprising if you follow fashion trends.

Skinny jeans were long ago tossed to the side in favor of baggy, wide-leg styles, and Gen Z called for the comeback of UGGs as soon the temperature dropped.

The more surprising elements might be the inclusion of crossbody bags, trench coats, and gold jewelry — but even those are wardrobe staples for many.

So as it turns out, achieving a "hot girl errand fit" might be easier than it sounds.

As for me, I've already failed.

My outfit for the night consists of Converse sneakers, silver jewelry, and yes, skinny jeans — sorry Gen Z. I'm really counting on my Taylor Swift crewneck to get me at least a few brownie points with the younger crowd.

But at least now I have an excuse to add "buy UGGs and flare leggings" to my errand list.
