Dive team recovers man’s body from Alameda Creek in Fremont

(KRON) — Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputies from the Tri-Valley Substation responded to a 911 call reporting a possible drowning Tuesday evening in Fremont. After multiple agencies provided rescue support, a 26-year-old man’s body was recovered from Alameda Creek.

The 911 caller told authorities that they saw an unknown man attempting to swim across Alameda Creek near Third and I streets at around 5 p.m., according to the East Bay Regional Parks District (EBRPD). The man in the water was struggling to swim, the caller said, and did not resurface when they eventually went under.

Several agencies responded to search the creek, including the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, EBRPD, Fremont Police Department, and Alameda County and Fremont fire departments. The Alameda County Water District was able to lower the creek’s water level by about 6 feet to assist in the search, the sheriff’s office said.
