Divers in Harwich recover body of man who drowned in Saquatucket Harbor

HARWICH — Divers recovered the body of a man who authorities say drowned early Saturday morning beneath his boat in Saquatucket Harbor, according to the Harwich Fire Department.

He was last seen Friday night heading to his boat to prepare for a fishing trip with his family Saturday. He was reported missing early Saturday morning, and Harwich police and fire went to the scene around 4 a.m.

An inspectionled officials to believe the man had fallen overboard. They activated the Barnstable County Dive Team, who entered the water to begin its search at 5:40 a.m.

They found the man submerged under his boat about 30 minutes later.

The incident is believed to be an accident, and Harwich Police and state police continue to investigate.
