Diverted over diaper: Florida-bound plane reroutes after diaper is mistaken for bomb

A Florida-bound airplane had to turn around after receiving reports of a possible bomb on board, but airport officials found an adult diaper instead.

The Copa Airlines flight was headed to Tampa, Florida from Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport Friday when it received word of a suspicious object in one of the plane's bathrooms, the Associated Press reported.

The plane landed back in Panama and went to a solitary tarmac before evacuating 144 passengers and having an anti-explosives team inspect the aircraft, according to AP.

Head of airport security José Castro said that the suspicious object was not in fact a dangerous explosive, but an adult diaper.

“We had it on a secure runway where police special explosives canine units and special forces examined the object, and found it to be an adult diaper, ruling out any risk,” Castro said, according to AP.
