Joel Scott, who was named the 2022-23 Division II men's basketball Player of the Year at Black Hills State, has committed to Colorado State.

The NCAA Division II Player of the Year will join the Colorado State men's basketball team next season.

Former Black Hills State star Joel Scott announced Monday his commitment to join the Rams after four seasons starring in the RMAC.

Scott was named the top player in DII last season after helping lead Black Hills State to the Final Four.

The 6-foot-7 forward was eighth in DII in scoring at 23 points per game and 15th in the country at that level in rebounds per game at 9.6. Scott had 16 point-rebound double-doubles last season.

Scott was a DII All-American for the second year in a row. He averaged 21.3 points per game over 116 career games at Black Hills State. Scott is the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,471 points. He's also a career 40% 3-point shooter.

He is a native of Monument, Colorado, and starred in high school at Lewis-Palmer. One of his older brothers, Josh, starred at the University of Colorado.

Scott is the first transfer addition of the offseason for CSU. Bringing in DII stars has become a preferred route for the Rams. Chandler Jacobs was an important piece of CSU's 2021-22 season as the Rams made the NCAA Tournament.

Former DII star Patrick Cartier was CSU's third-leading scorer last season (12.3 points per game) and will likely pair with Scott in the frontcourt in 2023-24.

The Rams still have at least two more scholarships available to fill and have had players in on recruiting visits recently.
