Dixie Diner owner's grandson arrested for her murder; robbery count included in charges

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrested Dixie Diner owner Paula Clark's grandson Friday for her death.

According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, Austin Amos Kennedy Byrnside, 22 of Hendersonville has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Clark's daughter, Latasha Jones, told the Times-News on Friday that Byrnside is her son. He is being held in the Henderson County Detention Facility under no bond.

"This arrest is the result of a lengthy and complex investigation conducted by the Major Crimes Detectives of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office into the May 6 assault of Clark. Clark passed away on Friday, May 13 as a result of the injuries she sustained from the assault," according to Johnny Duncan, public information officer, said in a press release.

Sheriff Lowell Griffin will hold a press conference Monday to provide further details on this investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released until the press conference on Monday.
