Dixie Fire Surpasses 510,000 Acres, With More Than 1,000 Buildings Destroyed

California’s destructive Dixie Fire grew to 510,227 acres (about 797 square miles) on August 12. Containment increased slightly to 30 percent overnight, according to the latest update from Cal Fire.

More than 1,100 structures had been destroyed by the Dixie Fire by August 12, Cal Fire said.

The wildfire is the largest single-source wildfire in the state’s history.
