Dixie State University announced Ken Beazer as its interim athletic director on Friday to replace former athletic director Jason Boothe, who stepped down from the position last week after 11 years on the job.

Beazer has worked for Dixie State since 2015 as the executive director of development in the Dixie State Advancement Office.

“We are fortunate to have a seasoned athletic administrator on our staff to fill this important role,” Dixie State President Richard B. Williams said in the news release. “Ken has over 20 years of experience as an athletic administrator and has served as DSU’s Executive Director of Development for the past six years. He will be an asset to our athletic department during this transition and I appreciate his willingness to step in and serve the university in this capacity.”

Prior to working at Dixie State, Beazer was the director of intercollegiate athletics at Southern Utah University from 2006-15.

While at Southern Utah, he led the university’s move to the Big Sky Conference in 2012 and oversaw the addition of three sports — women’s golf, women’s volleyball and men’s tennis.

During Beazer’s tenure, SUU won a Big Sky women’s basketball title in 2013-14, while its football program made its first-ever NCAA D-I FCS playoff appearance in 2013.

Beazer, who was president of the FCS Athletic Directors Association in 2014-15, also served as director of athletic development at Utah State (2001-05) and was the athletic director at Snow College for six years (1995-2001).

“My goal is to continue to build upon what is already here at Dixie State,” Beazer said. “I believe Dr. Boothe did a nice job of putting people in place to move the university, and in particular the athletics department, into a solid foundation. I am looking forward to working with the athletic department staff and coaches. We have a lot of work ahead of us.”
