DIY Pompom Initial Tote Bag Tutorial

Pompoms are everywhere in fashion at the moment, in just about every shop you walk into. Tops are trimmed with them, sandals are adorned with them and bags have them hanging as charms. They are also great for crafting with.

This pompom initial tote bag is bright and colourful, and perfect for summer. It’s easy to make too, and I’m going to show you how.

You will need:

  • A plain tote bag (this one is from Hobbycraft and they have a range of sizes)

  • Miniature felt pompoms in bright colours (Etsy is a great source)

  • Small felt pompoms in bright colours

  • Sharpie

  • Pritt Stick glue

First you need to place something inside the tote bag (I used a table mat) to stop ink and glue bleeding through to the back of the bag.

Next, draw out your initial with the Sharpie in the middle of the bag- make this a few milimetres less in width than four of your miniature pompoms.

Once you have the letter drawn out, fill it in with quite a thick layer of Pritt Stick glue, going over the drawn edges a little bit as you’ll want your pompoms to overlap this slightly.

Start to stick on your minature pompoms in vertical rows of four, alternating in colour as you go. Once you have completed quite a large section, use some of the larger pompoms in different colours to fill in a block, then repeat until you have filled in your whole letter.

It looks so bright and eye-catching and is bang on trend for summer 2016.

Finally, take one colour of your miniature pompoms (I chose black so that the focus was on the brightness of the letter) and stick these dotted around the rest of the bag’s front.

Lay your bag out flat to dry, then rock it on your next shopping trip.
