KITTERY - Violinist and Django By the Sea founder Jason Anick will come together with all-star musicians to celebrate the music of Django Reinhardt for a series of six performances throughout 2022, including the renowned Django by the Sea Festival in the fall.

One of The Dance Hall’s premiere events, the annual festival is the premier Gypsy Jazz festival in all of New England.

On Saturday, Feb. 5, the series kicks off with the acoustic jazz ensemble Rhythm Future Quartet. Their agenda is this: to keep the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive and expanding in today’s musical universe. The virtuosic foursome, named for a Django Reinhardt tune, offers up a newly minted sound, influenced by the classic Hot Club of France, yet wholly contemporary.

Led by violinist Anick and guitarist Olli Soikkeli, the quartet performs dynamic and lyrical arrangements of both Gypsy Jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon diverse international rhythms and musical idioms. With Max O’Rourke on second guitar and Greg Loughman on bass, Rhythm Future is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of a vital musical genre.

The show runs 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance; $25 at the door. All performances at The Dance Hall require proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or proof of a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours. Masks are require indoors for patrons and staff. For more information, visit thedancehallkittery.org.
