DK Metcalf's 100m time draws rave reviews from sports world originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

DK Metcalf put his speed to the test.

With the world watching, the Seahawks phenom lined up against some of the nation’s best runners and recorded a 10.36 in the 100 meters in his pro track and field debut. His heat was won by Cravon Gillespie with a 10.11.

While he won’t advance to the finals at the USA Track and Field Golden Games, Metcalf’s courageousness in wanting to test his speed against elite track and field athletes is something worth celebrating.

“Just happy to be here. Excited to have the opportunity to just thank God for the opportunity to come run out here next to world-class athletes like this,” Metcalf said after his ninth-place finish.

“I just do things because I want to do it ... these are world-class athletes. It’s very different from football speed, as I just realized.”

It was an incredible time for the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Seahawks receiver when many thought wouldn’t run more than a 10.6 or 10.5 on Sunday afternoon.

NBC Track analyst Ato Boldon showed some love to Metcalf’s performance, calling it “phenomenal.” He added, “10.36 for a man that size?”

Boldon urged more NFL players to challenge themselves by putting their speed to the test on the track.

“This should encourage every fast NFL guy,” Boldon said. "Tyreek Hill, are you listening? This should encourage every fast NFL guy that the Olympic trials are not that far away.”

Boldon wasn’t the only ones singing Metcalf’s praises on Sunday. His star QB was cheering him on, too.

Over the two heats, Metcalf finished 15th out of 17 runners, and his reaction time to the gun was second-slowest in his heat.

The Seahawks star will have to hang up his track shoes for now, because he's got other matters on the football field to attend this month.

"I've got minicamp to go to," Metcalf told NBC.
