DMV high school girls’ basketball rankings (1/26/24)

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Our top 25 high school girls’ basketball teams in the DMV as voted on by the DC News Now sports department. Rankings as of 12 p.m. Friday.

1. Sidwell Friends (12-2) – Last week: 1

Sidwell remains at No. 1 after wins over Bullis and Maret.

2. Bishop McNamara (16-3) – Last week: 2

Bishop McNamara continues to show their dominance, defeating Archbishop Carroll by 30.

3. St. John’s (12-4)

St. John’s falls to McNamara by 12, but defeats Elizabeth Seton by 13. The Cadets remain at No. 3.

4. Bullis (12-5) – Last week: 4

A blowout win over Holy Child, but a nine-point loss to Sidwell has Bullis at No. 4 in our rankings.

5. Elizabeth Seton (12-3) – Last week: 5

Seton remains in the top five after a 13-point loss to St. John’s. Big game Friday vs. Paul VI.

6. Mount Zion Prep (12-11) – Last week: 6

Only one game for Mt. Zion Prep in the past week, as the Warriors fell to Shining Star Academy.

7. Woodgrove (16-1) – Last week: 9

Woodgrove blows out both Broad Run and Tuscarora this past week. The move up to No. 7 in our rankings.

8. Archbishop Carroll (13-4) – Last week: 8

Tough loss to Bishop McNamara by 30. The Lions host Good Counsel Friday in a top 10 clash.

9. Good Counsel (9-6) – Last week: 13

Big win over PVI has Good Counsel in our top 10. They travel to Archbishop Carroll on Friday.

10. Paul VI (10-9) – Last week: 7

After their loss to Good Counsel, PVI drops to No. 10 in our rankings.

11. Osbourn Park (14-3) – Last week: 11

3-0 week for Osbourn Park has the Yellowjackets just outside the top 10 at No. 11.

12. Virginia Academy (9-6) – Last week: 12

No games for Virginia Academy this past week.

13. Maret (10-7) – Last week: 14

Tough loss to Sidwell, but a 14-point win over Jackson-Reed has the Frogs up one spot from last week.

14. Langley (17-1) – Last week: 16

Langley is putting their lone loss to Holy Child in the rear view mirror. 3-0 week for the Saxons as they continue to dominate the Liberty District.

15. Robinson (15-2) – Last week: 17

After suffering their second loss last week, Robinson backs it up with two wins over West Potomac and Lake Braddock.

16. Shabach Christian Academy (13-7) – Last week: 19

Shabach climbs three spots in our rankings to No. 16.

17. Potomac School (12-4) – Last week: 20

Very solid week for Potomac School, with wins over Holy Child, Georgetown Visitation and St. Andrew’s.

18. Flowers (10-0) – Last week: 21

Flowers remain undefeated on the season, and with that, climb three spots to No. 18.

19. Gainesville (17-3) – Last week: 23

Gainesville moves into the top 20 after a 2-0 week.

20. Holy Child (9-8) – Last week: 18

After losses to Potomac School and Bullis, Holy Child drops to No. 20.

21. Bethesda-Chevy Chase (12-2) – Last week: 10

The biggest drop of the week goes to BCC. After losing to Clarksburg by four, the Barons drop from No. 10 to 21.

22. Pallotti (11-8) – Las week: 22

Pallotti remains at No. 22 after defeating St. Mary’s by eight.

23. Bishop Ireton (11-6) – Last week: 24

Bishop Ireton moves up a spot in our rankings after defeating Holy Cross.

24. Briar Woods (15-1) – Last week:25

Briar Woods continue to cruise through their schedule, picking up wins over Independence, Potomac Falls and Riverside.

25. St. Andrew’s Episcopal (10-4) – Last week: honorable mention

St. Andrew’s cracks into the top 25 after defeating Georgetown Visitation by five.
