DMX's hometown celebrates rapper's life and legacy

The vigil took place in Mount Vernon, to celebrate the life and legacy of Earl Simmons, otherwise known as rapper DMX.

- A candlelight vigil held in memory of rapper DMX tonight in his hometown of Westchester County. The vigil was held in Mount Vernon to celebrate the life and legacy of DMX, whose real name was Earl Simmons. He died Friday at White Plains hospital at the age of 50. Although he grew up in Yonkers, DMX kept close ties with his hometown of Mount Vernon throughout his career.

CLAUDE JOHNSON: It's a great to see the community come together. He did things for his community. And he always talked about the creator. He always talked about God. That's just one of the things that most no doubt about him to me.

- Well, DMX was not only known for his music, but also for his commitment to his community. He helped others through food distribution, safety initiatives, and helping formerly incarcerated people start over.
