Dobbs Ferry Sets Hearing On $47M School Budget For 2020-21

DOBBS FERRY, NY — The Dobbs Ferry School District will hold its annual budget hearing on May 26 this year, this time by videoconference. That's only one of the many changes forced on the district by the new coronavirus pandemic in New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has warned that the economic effect of the shutdown imposed to curb the outbreak could mean much less money available for state education aid. The state will be assessing and adjusting its budget several times in the course of 2020. Cuomo's last estimate was that state aid would be 20 percent lower than already promised.

But, Dobbs Ferry's budget grew by 3.13 percent, or $1.4 million, from the 2019-2020 school year.

The proposed spending Dobbs Ferry administrators and trustees are putting before voters is $47.9 million. The proposed increase in the tax levy is 3.87 percent over the current year.

The school board will hold its annual budget hearing at 7 p.m. May 26. A link to the live-streamed meeting has not been released. Check Dobbs Ferry's website for more information as the meeting approaches.
