Doc Rivers explains keeping Sixers focused amid trade deadline rumors

The Feb. 10 trade deadline in the NBA is approaching rather quickly, and the Philadelphia 76ers figure to be at the forefront of most rumors due to the fact they have a star player, Ben Simmons, who wants out.
The Sixers also have other players who might be involved in rumors on a daily basis. The biggest example: Tobias Harris, who has had his name pop up in rumors along with young players Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle.
The deadline brings a wave of trade rumors and it’s on the head coach to make sure his team focuses on their jobs.
“It depends daily,” said coach Doc Rivers. “Which false rumor is out there on which day, and I’m half-joking about that. Probably, not really, but it’s just a different way back than it was 10 years ago. Stories break.”
Rivers is right about that. There are even times where there will be a mock trade for discussion purposes and some can take it the wrong way or believe it’s a real trade rumor.
“The thing from a coaching standpoint that I never liked, and it happens all the time now, is someone will create a story,” Rivers added. “Meaning they will suggest a trade and then they report on the trade they suggested even though it has nothing to do with our team, but it has to do with our players. That happens over and over now.”
When it comes to his team, Rivers just has to keep tabs on everybody and continue to address anything that pops up and bothers any of his players. That is a big challenge for him and the team as they move forward.
“Some guys take it very seriously and read everything, some guys ignore everything,” Rivers finished. “You just try to keep a pulse on your team and each individual.”
