Doc Rivers thankful Sixers have 2 days off before Pelicans game

Everybody knew the 2020-21 NBA season was going to be wild. There were going to be games coming fast in order to get the correct amount of games in a short amount of time and the second half schedule would be more compact than the first half of the schedule.
The Philadelphia 76ers have felt this more than anybody as they recently finished up a 13-day and 6-game road trip before they came home for a day and then had a back-to-back at home. The first game was at 8:00 and the second game was at 7:00 so it was a tough turnaround for the Sixers despite being at home,
Then, after that second home game, they were back out on the road again to begin a 4-game road trip. They have had a wild time so far and to get two days off before Friday’s game with the New Orleans Pelicans has been a huge benefit for them.
“We needed it,” said coach Doc Rivers. “We are on this stretch man. That road trip, starting out a road trip with a back-to-back home and a road, playing home and going to New York, and then going out west, and playing every other day, that was a tough trip.”
That road trip was a strange one for Philadelphia. It started in New York before heading to California for three games, and then heading to Denver and Cleveland before the two home games.
Even this trip has them going from Boston to New Orleans, to Oklahoma City, and then Dallas as they navigate through this tough stretch of the schedule.
“Then going reverse in timezones,” Rivers added. “You start with Denver and you end up in Cleveland, you come home for one day off play a back-to-back, and then leave town again. We needed this. It was very important for us.”
The Sixers returned to Philadelphia for practice after the Boston matchup on Tuesday and it turned out to be a great move. Just to come home for a bit will do wonders for them before heading to New Orleans.
“Sometimes scheduling you don’t what the right decision is,” the coach finished. “I can tell you I know we made it now by coming home to the Boston game instead of staying back out on the road. We easily could have done it.”
