Drag Race star Jinkx Monsoon has been announced to be joining the cast of Doctor Who.

There are currently no details over who Jinkx will be playing in the upcoming 14th series, but the BBC has teased that it will be a "major role" on the show.

“I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who," the star said. "Russell T. Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer. I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

Showrunner Russell T Davies added: “In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!”

Jinkx recently finished a run on Broadway, having played Matron 'Mama' Morton in Chicago.

The 14th series will see Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor. He'll be joined by former Coronation Street star Millie Gibson, who is playing new companion Ruby Sunday.

"Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honoured to be cast as the Doctor’s companion," Millie said late last year, at the time of her announcement. "It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me."

But before we get to see Jinkx in action alongside Gatwa, there will be three specials airing in November as part of its 60th anniversary.

David Tennant is back as the iconic Time Lord for these episodes, after becoming the 14th Doctor at the end of 'The Power of the Doctor'. He will be reuniting with Catherine Tate as she reprises the role of Donna Noble.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
