Doctor explains how a space flight could impact the human body

Actor William Shatner made history on Wednesday as the oldest person to ever travel to space. Best known for his role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek, Shatner joined three other passengers for a launch to space in a Blue Origin rocket. They experienced weightlessness for a few minutes before parachuting back down safely in the west Texas desert. Ans while Captain Kirk may have been used to space, this was a first for Shatner. But this has some people wondering if it’s healthy for a 90-year-old man to leave the planet. Dr. Richard Scheuring, a physician with NASA, has treated many short-term and long-haul astronauts. He sat down with KCRA 3 on Wednesday to speak about some of the effects space travel could have on the human body. Take a look at the video above to see what he had to say.
