The Expanse's fifth season has left fans of two major franchises excited as it dropped Easter eggs into its fifth episode.

The Amazon Prime series included subtle references to both Doctor Who and Game of Thrones.

A recent post on Reddit unravelled the mystery, as one viewer noticed something in Chrisjen Avasarala's (Shohreh Aghdashloo) phone: a Time Lord.

The politician's contacts list included a 'Who, Dr.'.

One Reddit user wrote: "Has anyone noticed that Chrisjen Avasarala seems to have Doctor Who on speed dial?"

'Clegane, G' was also spotted in the contacts book, which might be a reference to Gregor Clegane (also referred to as The Mountain) from Game of Thrones.

Another popular theory among fans was that the contact 'Banks, V' could be a reference to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Aunt Vivian.

While we can't be certain as to why these specific names were used, one viewer had a theory that all the characters whose names were referenced on the contacts list were recast when their respective shows were running.

"Omg. All of the names on that list are characters that were recast! Dr Who, Clegane, Aunt Viv, and Arjun," they wrote.

The Arjun reference relates to The Expanse character Arjun Avasarala, who was played by Brian George until Michael Benyaer was recast in the role during the show's fourth season.

Sneaky!
