Jodie Whittaker appears to have landed a brand new BBC TV part following her departure from Doctor Who.

The actress exited as the Thirteenth Doctor last year after five years, and it is now being reported by The Sun that she's now joined the second series of prison drama Time in a major role.

The first series aired back in 2021 and starred Sean Bean and Stephen Graham as a prison inmate and guard.

The second will reportedly move events to a women's prison, with Whittaker set to take on the role of an inmate akin to Bean's in the first series.

The BBC declined to comment when contacted by Digital Spy.

It comes after Whittaker recently signed on for her first role since Doctor Who in Paramount+'s One Night.

The show will co-star Orange is the New Black's Yael Stone and Nicole da Silva in a "story of three women whose bond was all but destroyed by the traumatic events of one night 20 years ago".

Whittaker plays Tess, who is reunited with her childhood best friends Hat and Simone when the latter publishes a novel that threatens to bring back traumatic memories.

The star departed from Doctor Who in October, where she regenerated into David Tennant's Fourteenth Doctor. The latter will appear in three specials later this year, before Ncuti Gatwa takes over the TARDIS.

Time airs on BBC One. Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on HBO Max. Classic Doctor Who streams on BritBox in the UK.
