Doctor Who co-stars Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman have reunited during a charity day.

The actors were photographed hugging and smiling at BGC Partners' annual charity day in London, as well as chatting with children and posing with charity bosses, as they helped raise money for good causes.

Smith played the titular Time Lord on the BBC's long-running sci-fi television series from 2010-2013. Coleman appeared as his companion, Clara Oswald, in the Eleventh Doctor's final season, before starring in two further seasons with Peter Capaldi.

BGC Partners' annual charity day takes place on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Then known as Cantor Fitzgerald, the company lost 658 employees in the attacks.

To remember those lost, it now holds an annual event on the anniversary each year where celebrities join employees on trading floors in London and New York City to take calls and close deals. Each celebrity represents a particular charity.

On September 11, the company distributes "100% of our global revenues to the [Cantor Fitzgerald] Relief Fund and many other charities around the world."

Smith and Coleman were among the celebrities helping out at the event in Canary Wharf on Monday, showing their support for charities Choose Love and Spread a Smile.

Choose Love provides support to refugees around the world ranging from humanitarian aid to advocacy services. Its mission statement adds that the organisation "does whatever it takes to provide refugees and displaced people with everything from lifesaving search and rescue boats to food and legal advice".

Spread a Smile is a charity that aids "seriously ill children in hospitals, hospices and homes across the UK".

The organisation helps young people and their families face their health challenges "with optimism and positivity" through in-person and virtual visits to patients.

Over the years, the charity day has raised over $200 million, City AM reports.

Doctor Who is returning to the BBC soon, with Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa starring as The Doctor for its 14th full season.

Alongside Gatwa and Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday is Russell T Davies, the returning showrunner whose 2005 revival of the series was widely credited with raising its profile and popularity.

However, before Gatwa's first full season in the TARDIS, David Tennant will return for three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials.

Tennant will be the first actor to play more than one version of the Time Lord, as he starred in the series as the tenth Doctor from 2005-2010.

Further cast members such as Neil Patrick Harris, Yasmin Finney and Catherine Tate have also been announced for the show's reunion specials, which are set to air in late 2023.

Doctor Who returns later in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Meanwhile, in the US, the show airs on BBC America, with series 1-12 available on Max.
