Dodge and Chrysler Recall to Fix Airbag Covers

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is recalling almost 1 million vehicles because pieces of the driver’s-side airbag cover could act as dangerous projectiles during a crash.
The automaker says that parts of the plastic airbag cover can detach and strike occupants if the airbags deploy, and that it is aware of at least 14 injuries to drivers that may be related to this issue. The affected vehicles do not have airbags supplied by Takata, and the recall involves the airbag cover, not the airbag itself.
Until a free recall repair is completed, FCA says that owners of affected vehicles should not tamper with the plastic emblems attached to the airbag cover on the steering wheel.

Vehicles Recalled
• 2007 to 2011 Dodge Nitro SUVs
• 2008 to 2010 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans
The problem: Clips that are part of the airbag cover may loosen over time. If the airbag deploys, these clips—and the plastic emblem attached to the cover—may become projectiles that could injure the driver.
The fix: Dealers will replace the airbag cover, free of charge.
