Billie Jean King cheers on Dodgers' ball girl who made amazing catch

You may have seen the amazing video already.

On Saturday night, with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Chicago Cubs' Anthony Rizzo ripped a foul ball down the right-field line that was headed for front few rows of the stands – and the ball was going more than 100 miles per hour.

Enter: Dodgers' ball girl. She calmly tracks the ball, doesn’t panic like the people in the stands behind her and snags it cleanly out of thin air. She then concluded her performance with the swaggiest shrug we’ve seen on at a baseball game.

Effortless.

Tennis legend Billie Jean King, winner of 39 Grand Slam titles, celebrated the amazing catch on Twitter, posting the video with the comment “Absolutely incredible.”

The young woman in question? Karlie Habitz, who was the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year for California State University’s softball team, according to Softball America’s Twitter account.

Ball girls in baseball have come a long way since 1991, when the New York Times wondered, “Why can't the ball girls throw or catch?" Women have a storied history in baseball, some of which was explored in the 1992 film “League of Their Own,” but in 2019 we’re still not seeing women playing professional baseball.

Habitz’s catch certainly begs the question, why not?
