Dodgers LHP Ryu (neck) goes on 10-day IL

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu went on the 10-day injured list Friday with neck soreness, in a move that was retroactive to Thursday.

With an 11-2 record and a major-league-leading 1.53 ERA in 21 starts this season, the 32-year-old is considered a top candidate for the Cy Young Award in the National League. In six seasons in the majors, all with the Dodgers, he has compiled a 51-30 record with a 2.87 ERA over 118 appearances (117 starts).

Ryu will miss his next scheduled start Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals, and will be replaced by right-handed prospect Tony Gonsolin, who was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Gonsolin, who was sent down after throwing four innings in relief against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, was brought back because of Ryu's status.

"I don't think it's going to be that big a deal," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Ryu. "Where we're at, with his neck, I didn't want to compromise anything."

The Dodgers also called up right-hander Dustin May, who was scheduled to make his major league debut Friday night against the San Diego Padres.

Ryu's last outing was also against the Rockies, when he pitched six scoreless innings Wednesday and allowed only three hits in a game the Dodgers won by scoring all five of their runs in the ninth inning.

In a related move, the Dodgers optioned right-hander Dylan Floro to Triple-A to make room on the 25-man roster for May. Floro is 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 38 appearances this season.
