HILLSDALE TWP. — Four community organizations have partnered together to plan an event aimed at teaching local youth about fire safety and awareness on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Hillsdale City Fire Department, Hillsdale Township Fire Department, Todd Moore-State Farm and Leighr A. Wright American Legion Post 53 of Hillsdale have organized the event which will take place from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at the Legion, located at 1611 Steamburg Road.

A special "smoke trailer" from the Addison Fire Department — an RV designed to teach kids how to escape a home fire using fog machines — will be on site for a hands-on experience, and "Sparky" the fire pup will be present.

Firefighters from the city and township will have trucks on display and will don their personal protective equipment so local youth knows what to look for in the event of an emergency.
