When does Main Event open? Here's the latest in Fayetteville retail and entertainment
Summer brings several changes to the retail and entertainment scene in Fayetteville.
Among the new and soon-to-open businesses are a sporting goods store, a family entertainment venue, a night market and a hotel. At least two new retail developments were proposed to the city, and one children's store is set to close.

Dick’s House of Sport hosts a grand reopening Friday
The former Dick’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream stores at Freedom Town Center will reopen Friday as Dick’s House of Sport, according to a news release. The new 100,000-square-foot store offers a climbing wall, golf simulators and multi-sports cages where customers can track their performance and test sports gear before they check out.
The grand opening event, which extends through Sunday, will host a sports festival in the parking lot, including pickleball courts, golf simulators, a soccer kick wall and a DJ. The first 100 customers each day will receive gift cards of varying amounts, up to $500.
Starting at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, 200 wristbands will be offered to customers who wish to attend the autograph signing and appearance on that day. Sports figures will be available for signings at the following times:
Duke Blue Devils women’s basketball head coach Kara Lawson, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Friday
Tar Heels men’s basketball forward Armando Bacot, noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday
Former Carolina Panthers football player Thomas Davis, noon-1:30 p.m. Sunday
Business hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Main Event opens Aug. 9 at Cross Creek Mall
Main Event, a family bar, restaurant and arcade operated by the same parent company as Dave & Busters, is opening its first location in the state on Aug. 9. Located at 580 Cross Creek Mall, the 38,000-square-foot facility will offer laser tag, video games and 18 bowling lanes.
Family Kitchen, the on-site restaurant, offers such dishes as cheesy lava burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches and cheesecake served in a mason jar, as well as shareable family-style meals. The bar offers cocktails like margaritas, pine coladas and spiked lemonade.
The venue is hiring 160 servers, bartenders, dining hosts, line cooks, game and bowling attendants. Candidates can apply at mainevent.com/careers.
Revolutionary Coworking has a new office space, new night market
Revolutionary Coworking, a nonprofit shared workspace since 2016, moved from its former spot on Hay Street to an office at 321 Dick St. in June.
On June 30, the organization started its Revolutionary Night Market, which is hosted from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the third Friday of the month through October. The event offers food trucks and vendors, each with a different theme: the Aug. 18 market theme is back-to-school; the Sept. 15 market is self-care-themed; and the Oct. 20 market is witch-themed. Parking is free, and there are on-site bathrooms.
Residential and retail development proposed in Haymount neighborhood
Plans submitted to the city propose a two-story building and a three-story building at Fort Bragg and North Olive roads with retail spaces on the first floor and residences above. The 1.36-acre property spans two office building lots, a vacant lot and a former dry cleaner.
The mixed-use development in Fayetteville’s historic Haymount neighborhood would have 11 retail spaces at about 1,000 square feet each; 18 residences ranging from 1,300 square feet to 2,520 square feet; 12 garages for residents and 45 parking spaces. Six of the residences would have balconies.

Plans submitted for retail space at Robeson Street and Levy Drive
Plans were submitted to the city for a shopping center with four retail spaces on a 1.5-acre vacant lot at Robeson Street and Levy Drive. The property at 1205 Robeson St. is currently used for commercial trailer parking.
Buybuy Baby is closing Fayetteville store
Buybuy Baby is closing all 115 of its stores, including the Fayetteville location at 2716 Freedom Parkway Drive. The children’s store is a subsidiary of Bed, Bath and Beyond, which filed for bankruptcy protection in April. Merchandise is currently on sale for up to 90% off.

Hilton opens a hotel on Ramsey Street
Home2 Suites by Hilton Fayetteville North opened July 6. Located at 6309 Ramsey St., the hotel offers 109 rooms, each outfitted with a full kitchen and living and sleeping areas. Daily rates start at $157 and include breakfast and parking. The hotel offers an indoor pool, a fitness center and pet-friendly rooms.
Indoor playground opens on Yadkin Road
Playfun Party, an indoor playground with a Fuquay-Varina location, opened recently at 4902 Yadkin Road, Suite 200. Open to children ages 6 and under, the facility offers toys, a slide, a ball pit, play structures and Wi-Fi. Single visit passes are $14 for children ages 11 months and up and $11 for children younger than 11 months. Monthly passes start at $30 for a single child.
